C.M. Shri Chouhan For Economic Emancipation of Women

The Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that the society makes progress when women live with honour and dignity. He said that economic emancipation of women is the precondition of development. He was addressing a function organized here today at Samanvay Bhavan to celebrate the International Women's Day.

The Chief Minister expressed commitment to welfare of women, sisters and daughters. He said that mothers and daughters are no longer burden in the state. It is mission of the government to ensure their economic emancipation, saying that the state government stays with them with fullest support at every stage. Shri Chouhan said that positive change in respect of women's empowerment is reflective owing to state government's well-thought initiatives. Number of girl child is increasing. Maternal and infant mortality rates have come down. Percentage of institutional delivery has increased from 24 to 81 percent. Women representatives today occupy 56 percent positions in Panchayats and Urban bodies, he added.

Shri Chouhan said that he had taken initiatives for empowerment of women as member of Parliament by offering financial help to poor parents for marriages of their daughters. He said that the Ladli Laxmi Yojana which was opposed initially is now an ideal scheme. Today 6.56 lakh beneficiaries have been covered.

Shri Chouhan felicitated winners of Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia honour for social service and Rani Avani Bai Gallantry Award. He also presented national savings certificates for 14 girl children.

MLAs Smt. Uma Devi, Smt. Lalita Yadav, Smt. Neena Vikram Verma, Smt. Nandi Maravi, Smt. Pratibha Singh, Smt. Gita Uike, Smt. Malini Laxman Singh Gaud, Smt. Kalabai Prajapati were felicitated on the occasion. Smt. Santosh Soni winner of Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Award for Social Service and Smt. Neetu Agrawal winner of Rani Avanti Bai Gallantry Award were presented mementos and cash award of Rs. One lakh. National Savings Certificates were presented to Ladli Laxmi beneficiaries.

Minister of State for Women and Child Development Smt. Ranjana Baghel said that Madhya Pradesh carries a distinct identity by implementing novel schemes for empowerment of women. She said that the budget of the department has been increased by 45 percent. About 430 crore has been spent on implementation of Ladli Laxmi Yojana.

Those present included Principal Secretary Women and Child Development Shri B. R. Naidu, Director Shri Anupam Rajan and women in a large number.
